Gary Wade Finley Jr. qualified fastest for the Huntsville Speedway 50th Anniversary 50-lap feature, but drew a two in pre-race ceremonies. That put him on the outside of the front row for the start of the race, but Huntsville Speedway fans well know that Finley can pilot the #37 Modified around the outside almost as well as the preferred inside groove. Craig Bell drew the pole for the race.
Finley worked the outside line and held on to take the lead on lap two. The caution flag waved on lap 11 for the car of Phillip Price. Just after the caution, in an unrelated incident, John Thomas got into the #56 of Craig Bell. Thomas's car suffered quite a bit of damage and was out of the race. Bell was able to continue. Jared Land was also involved in the incident. Land's crew worked feverishly to replace a brake caliper on the right front, and Land was able to rejoin before the race continued under green.
Some of the best racing of the night took place during this Super Modified Feature. Phillip Price and Johnny Brazier battled side by side for fourth place for several laps toward the end of the race. Price was in the familiar #5, and Brazier was behind the wheel of Rapid Roy Cantrell's #2. Brazier battled on the outside for at least 5 laps. Jared Land was content to ride behind these two, perhaps waiting for one or both of them to make a mistake of which he could take advantage. Brazier won the battle, though, taking fourth place on lap 41. Brazier went on to do battle with Craig Bell for third for the last 4 laps of the race. Both cars were sideways coming out of turn 4 on the last lap, and Jared Land had his chance. Land managed to pass Johnny Brazier, and ended up fourth.
The top five were Gary Wade Finley Jr., Junior Seymour, Craig Bell, Jared Land, and Johnny Brazier.
Seymour, Tennessee's Layne Clifton picked up the win the 25-lap Bandolero feature. Clifton was followed by Leroy Carley, Sean Hosey and Egrua Gentry. Clifton told pit reporter Louie Robinette that Huntsville Speedway is his favorite track. The win was Clifton's second on the quarter-mile oval.
Sideways out of the turns and fishtailing down the straightaways, passing on the outside, and good stock car racing action was the name of the game in the Super Stock feature race. David Dean Jr. made some good moves, taking second spot on lap 3. On the next lap Guile Hornbuckle took the outside line around Michael Neely and Billy Byrd to take third. Neely then decided that he would try the outside to make his way around Byrd. Neely did some dirt style racing, sideways in turns 3 and 4, but managed to make his way around Billy Byrd for the fourth position.
Working lap 8, race leader Jerry Partridge lost control and slammed the inside wall on the back stretch head on, ending his night. That put David Dean Jr. on the point with Guile Hornbuckle second. Dean slipped high on the restart allowing Hornbuckle to take control. It didn't take Dean long. He took the low line on lap 11, completing the pass and retaking the race lead. Michael Neely soon followed suit, working Hornbuckle for second place.
David Dean Jr. finished first, followed by Guile Hornbuckle, Billy Byrd, Michael Neely, and Brad Sands.
Murfreesboro, Tennessee's Tyler Cordell picked up the win in the Legends feature.
Jared Lawler wore them out in Pro Buzz, pulling out to a big lead on the start and never looking back. Lawler was followed by David Lacourse, Mark Collins and Junior Seymour, who substituted for Jeremy Seymour.
Bradley Carter's car looked strong in the early laps of the Sportsman feature, but bad luck came his way when he blew an engine on lap six. Race leader Greg Kruse pulled into the pits on lap ten, but as luck would have it, R.L. Vickers also spun on the same lap, bringing out the caution flag. Under caution, the Kruse crew as able to make repairs, and the only Mopar machine rejoined the race before it was resumed. Kruse worked his way back up to the front to challenge leader Byron Westbrook before the race was over. Kruse couldn't quite get it done, though, and Westbrook went to victory lane followed by Kruse in second. Larry Crowe, Jonathan Campbell, and Joe Forsythe rounded out the top five.
CJ Tuck cruised to victory in the 25-lap Mini Stock feature. Skyler Charles was second, followed by Chris Mahan, Buddy Traylor, and Clay Joseph. In victory lane, Tuck said that all they did since last season was take the car off the jack stands and wipe off the dust.
The Buzz cars tried to race 4-wide on the back stretch entering turn two on the first lap. Derrick Black found out that would not work on the little track. Frank Williams worked the outside groove in his #22w, smoking the left front tire coming off the turns. Greg Ridgeway picked up the win followed by Cole Helton and Frank Williams.
